Women’s Soccer Beats Coker, 2-0
Lions record fourth shutout of the season
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team scored two late goals to defeat visiting Coker College, 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC improved to 4-0-1 while the Cobras fell to 0-4 on the season.
After almost 70 minutes of scoreless play, Catherine Watkins-Banks hit a shot from 20 yards out to give MHC a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish. Salem Woody assisted the goal.
Miranda Reasoner added an insurance goal at the 87:41 mark from 30 yards out. The goal was unassisted.
MHC out shot Coker, 20-1. The Lions had six corner kicks to the Cobras one and the Lions were called off sides nine times in the match. Chelsea Parker played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions. Coker did not have a shot on goal. Lizz Morris played the first 70:19 in goal for Coker and made five saves. Haley Gibson played the final 19:41 in the net for the Cobras and made a pair of saves.
MHC will play at Young Harris College on September 14. Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
