Women’s Soccer Falls to Newberry
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill women's soccer team lost to SAC foe Newberry College, 2-0 Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions fell to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. The Wolves improved to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in the league.
After a scoreless first half of play, Brayden Miller found the back of the net at the 75:43 mark to notch what would later prove to be the game winner. The goal was unassisted. Two minutes later (77:48), Gabrielle Brodie added an insurance goal to make the final tally, 2-0 in favor of the visitors. That goal was also unassisted.
The Wolves out shot MHC, 12-4. NC edged the Lions in corner kicks, 6-2. Chelsea Parker played all 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made three saves. Emily Rhoades also played the entire match in the net for Newberry and made two saves.
Leah Taylor and Cara Woolford each had one shot on goal for the Lions.
Mars Hill will play at SAC rival Brevard College on Saturday, October 1. Match time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
