Women’s Soccer Loses at Tusculum
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Jana Linke converted a turnover into the game-winning goal early in the seocnd half as Tusculum College picked up its fourth straight victory with a 2-1 win over Mars Hill College in a South Atlantic Conference women's soccer match Wednesday evening at Pioneer Field.
Linke's third goal of the season came at 52:56 and helped the Pioneers remain unbeaten in the SAC at 3-0-0 (7-3-0 overall). The Lions, who were outshot 18-7 in the contest, dropped to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3 in the SAC with the loss.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead at 16:12 on a goal by Cara Woolford, but Tramicka James knotted the score at 31:13 as she took a feed from Patience Leonard.
Tusculum outshot Mars Hill 8-2 in the first half, and mounted early pressure in the second half that culminated in Linke's goal, which came from 20 yards out and beat Lions keeper Chelsea Parker to the far post.
Mars Hill had a couple late efforts at the Tusculum goal, but Pioneer keeper Marissa Williams made both of her saves in the match in the final eight minutes. Parker finished with six stops for the Lions.
Mars Hill will host Anderson University on Sunday, October 9. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
