Women’s Soccer Loses to Carson-Newman
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team lost to conference opponent Carson-Newman College, 3-1 Saturday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 6-9-1 on the year and 2-6 in the SAC. The Eagles improved to 5-8-1 on the season and 2-4-1 in the league.
Trenna Howell broke open a scoreless match at the 63:05 mark when she scored from 20 yards out. The goal was unassisted. Emily Lambert scored at the 72:08 mark on a pass from Howell. Jenna Bryan added an insurance goal at the 81:32 mark on a cross from Maleya Garrison. MHC got on the board at the 81:59 mark when Grace Lancaster scored on a penalty kick.
C-N outshot the Lions 12-11. The Eagles edged Mars Hill in corner kicks, 6-3. MHC was called off sides three times. Becca Sellars played all 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made three saves. Sarah Tompkins also played the entire match in the net for C-N and made four saves.
Mars Hill will host Lincoln Memorial University on October 27. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
