Lions Improve to 2-0 with Victory
MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Mars Hill women's soccer team won its second consecutive game to open the season, earning a 2-0 victory over North Greenville at Meares Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Mars Hill got goals from Hannah Russell and Rachel Weber in the first half. Russell's goal was her first as a Lion. Alyssa Morris picked up her team-leading third assist. Chelsea Parker recorded her second consecutive shutout in goal with six saves. Mars Hill improved to 2-0-0 on the season, while North Greenville fell to 0-2-0.
Russell got the Lions on the board inthe 19th minute. A foul on the Crusaders set the Lions up with a free kick from just inside the box. Alyssa Morris put a shot on net that was stopped, but Russell swooped in the corral the rebound and put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 Mars Hill lead.
Weber scored the second Mars Hill goal in the 33rd minute on a corner kick. Weber corralled a loose ball in the box and unleashed a left-footer that found the corner of the net for a 2-0 MHC lead.
Mars Hill will be in action again at Lees-McRae on Wednesday, Sept. 5 with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
