Women’s Soccer Shuts Down Brevard
Morris records a goal and an assist in the win
BREVARD, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team got back on the winning track by defeating Brevard College, 4-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Lions improved to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAC with the win. The Tornados fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in the league.
Alyssa Morris scored the first goal of the match at the 27:42 mark. The unassisted goal would later prove to be the match winner. That would be all the scoring the first half would see.
The second half belonged to the Lions as they scored three unanswered goals. Hannah Russell scored the second goal for MHC in the 52nd minute on a pass from Haley Peterson. Abby Spitler then notched the Lions third goal at the 81:47 mark on a cross from Morris. Sandra Megill then added an insurance goal with 53 ticks left in regulation to make the final tally 4-0 in favor of the visitors. The last goal was assisted by Russell.
MHC outshot Brevard, 14-11. The Lions edged the Tornados in corner kicks, 5-4. Chelsea Parker played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves to pick up her third shutout of the season. Brittany Webster also played the entire match in the net for Brevard and made four saves.
