Women’s Soccer Loses to No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team lost to no. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne University, 4-0 Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the SAC. The Bears improved to 10-1 on the season and 6-0 in the league.
Lauren Donovan gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at the 20:16 mark when she scored off a corner kick that was redirected in the box. There was a double assist in the goal by Garcelle Alequine and Brianna Belsky.
Hanna Keibel scored eight minutes later (28:50) on a cross from Casey Marlin to give L-R a 2-0 advantage. That would be all the scoring the first half would see.
Hallie Hilliard scored 31 seconds into the second half on a cross from Alequine to extend the bears lead to 3-0. Keibel then added an insurance goal at the 89:20 mark from 30 yards out. That was the last score of the match.
L-R outshot the Lions, 24-4. The Bears edged Mars Hill in corner kicks, 5-2. Chelsea Parker and Tori Stajduhar each played 45 minutes in the net for the Lions. The duo made five saves apiece. Caitlin Scruggs played the first 61:49 in the net for the Bears. Tessa Lukens played the final 28:11 and made two saves.
Mars Hill will host Newberry College on October 12, 2012. Game time for the Lions' annual Senior Night will be 5 p.m.
