Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Mount Olive
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team won their second straight match with a 3-0 victory over Mount Olive College Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 6-9 overall while the Trojans fell to 5-8-1 on the year.
Alyssa Morris scored the first goal of the match five minutes (5:25) into the contest on a through ball passed by Hallie Barry. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Rachel Weber scored off a rebound from a corner kick sent in by Morris at the 47:35 mark. Cara Woolford added an insurance goal in the final minute of action (89:12) from 30 yards out. The goal was assisted by Hannah Russell. That would end the scoring in the match to make the final tally 3-0 in favor of the Lions.
MHC outshot Mount Olive, 10-9. The Lions enjoyed two more corner kicks (4-2) than the Trojans. Mars Hill was called offsides three times. Chelsea Parker played the entire match in goal for Mars Hill and made six saves. Carolin Edenhofner also played the entire match in the net for Mount Olive and made three saves.
Mars Hill will play at SAC rival Wingate University on October 20. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
