Women’s Soccer Loses at Wingate
WINGATE, N.C. - The Wingate University Bulldogs won their ninth straight game Saturday afternoon, downing the visiting Lions of Mars Hill College 5-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. The Bulldogs improve to 12-1-1 overall and 6-1 in the SAC. Mars Hill falls to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
Wingate's Kalyn Meosky had two goals and an assist to lead the Wingate attack. Chandler Murphy and Shelby Forza each added a goal and two assists.
Holly Holsclaw got the Bulldogs on the board 13:24 into the contest, scoring from over 30 yards out on a free kick to make it 1-0.
Forza netted her seventh goal of the season four minutes later, getting a lead pass from Meosky and beating the keeper, giving her a goal for the fourth consecutive contest.
The Bulldogs pushed the lead to three 6:47 into the second half, when Murphy's lead pass found Forza, who crossed one to Meosky in front of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Meosky struck again four minutes later, heading home a cross from Murphy for her second career multi-goal game.
Wingate capped the scoring in the 84th minute, when Forza got behind the defense and ripped a shot that was saved by the Mars Hill keeper. Murphy was there to net her second goal of the season, giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 victory.
Wingate out-shot Mars Hill 28-8 on the day, holding a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal. Wingate goal keeper Miriam Boucher had four saves for the Bulldogs. Ashlyn Hardie registered three saves off the bench for the Bulldogs. MHC goalkeeper Chelsea Parker had five saves for the Lions.
Wingate returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 27, hosting Tusculum at 5 p.m. on Senior Day. Mars Hill travels to Tennessee Wesleyan Wednesday at 7 p.m.
