Women’s Soccer Loses to Bears in SAC Tournament
HICKORY, N.C. - The no. 11 Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team defeated Mars Hill, 2-0 in the first round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Soccer Tournament. The Bears improved to 14-1-2 on the season and advance to the semifinals in Rock Hill on Friday. The Lions end their season with a 6-13 record.
Lauren Donovan scored what would later prove to be the match winner at the 54:45 mark of the second half off a corner kick. Brianna Belsky recorded the assist on the goal.
Hanna Kiebel scored the final goal of the contest from about 20 yards out on a pass from Regina Kelly. The second goal of the match was scored in the 78th minute.
The Bears outshot the Lions, 31-4. Lenoir-Rhyne had 15 corner kicks as opposed to the Lions' one. Chelsea Parker played all 90 minutes in goal for Mars Hill and made 12 saves. Caitlin Scruggs also played the entire contest in the net for the Bears and made three saves.
