Lions Sign Six to 2013 Recruiting Class
MARS HILL, N.C.-The Mars Hill women's soccer team has signed six student-athletes who will join the Lions' program in fall 2013.
Abigial Mills (Ross, Ohio), Maslyn Greene (Dallas, Ga.), Morgan Meyer (Roanoke, Va.), Murray Meyer (Roanoke, Va.), Samantha Lawson (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jordan Allen (Lynchburg, Va.) have all signed National Letters of Intent. All six student-athletes will be eligible to compete for the Lions beginning this fall.

Mills is a forward and midfielder who attended Ross High School and played club soccer for Cincinnati United Premier. Her high school team won the National Home School Tournament three times, and she was selected to the Girls Varsity Northeast Super-Regional Team as a junior and senior. Mills was an Honor Roll student throughout high school, and plans to study and major in Zoology at Mars Hill.
"Abby is a quick and shifty forward/outside mid," commented Mars Hill head coach Ken Miller. "She is technically sound and has good vision and pace. We are excited about Abby's potential to compete as a forward and outside mid for our team."
Greene played goalkeeper for the SAA U18 Premier Region-III Premier League and attended North Paulding High School. Her club team won the 2012 State Championship in Georgia. Greene is a National Honors Society member, GA Merit Awards winner, and an AP Scholar Award recipient. She plans to study Zoology at Mars Hill.
"Maslyn is a quality goalkeeper with great size and strength," stated Miller. "She is a very good shot stopper and has a good command of her goal area. We are excited about Maslyn's potential and we look forward to her competing for the starting role as a keeper. Maslyn adds to a young and very solid goalkeeping core for Mars Hill."
Twins Morgan and Murray Meyer come to the Lions from Hidden Valley High School. Each played for the Roanoke Stars club team.
Morgan played center midfield and was a four-year starter at Hidden Valley. She was a part of the US Club Soccer Regional Champions in 2012, and was part of the Roanoke Stars team that finished third at the 2012 US Club Soccer National Tournament. She plans to study Pre-Med and Biology while at Mars Hill.
"Morgan is a shifty and quick center mid, who also has the ability to play outside mid," said Miller. "She has good technical skill and good awareness on the ball. She is always supporting play and looking to distribute. We are excited about Morgan's versatility. She will look to compete for playing time as a center mid and outside midfielder."
Murray played defender and was also a four-year starter for Hidden Valley. She was a member of the Roanoke Stars team that was the 2012 US Club Soccer Regional Champions and finished third at the 2012 US Club Soccer National Tournament. Murray plans to study Pre-Med and Biology at Mars Hill.
"Murray is a solid defender who loves to make runs from the back," commented Miller. "She is technically sound and has the ability to link play with midfielders and forwards. She is a solid one-on-one defender. We are excited about Murray's attacking ability from the back line. She will look to compete for playing time as an outside defender."
Lawson comes to Mars Hill from Ardrey Kell High School and played club soccer for Charlotte Soccer Academy. Lawson was a defender on the Ardrey Kell team that was the 2012 South Western North Carolina Conference Champs. Her club team won the FCCA Tournament in 2012. She is a member of the National Technical Honors Society and plans to study Graphic Design at Mars Hill.
"Sammi is a solid defender who has the ability to play center back or outside back," stated Miller. "She is tenacious defensively and has good composure on the ball. Sammi is technically sound. We are excited about Sammi's versatility as a defender to play both as a center back and outside back. We look forward to Sammi primarily competing for time as a center back."
Allen, a midfielder, comes to Mars Hill from Amherst County High School. She played club soccer with Central Virginia United and Roanoke Star ASL. Allen has been a member of the District ODP and Virginia State ODP in 2011. She is a National Honors Society member and is currently undecided about her future studies at Mars Hill.
"Jordan is a creative, shifty and technically solid midfielder,"
said Miller. "She has the ability to play both centrally and as a
wide midfielder. She does well to link play and help keep
possession. We are excited about Jordan competing for playing time
as a center midfielder and wide midfielder."
