Women's Soccer Falls to Eagles in Overtime
The Lions’ women’s soccer team lost to Carson-Newman 2-1, Wednesday night in overtime.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' women's soccer team lost to Carson-Newman 2-1, Wednesday night in overtime in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 2-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the SAC. The Eagles improved to 5-5-3 on the season and 3-3-2 in the league.
Rachel Blong scored the first goal in the match at the 40:26 mark with a header off a cross from Megan Stabile. It was Blong's first goal of the season. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Susann Kneifel tied the contest in the 59th minute scoring on a loose ball. Neither team could find the net in the remainder of regulation.
Megan Peterson notched the match winner at the 96:10 mark in the first overtime period. She scored off a header from a corner kick sent in by Mikayla Gregg.
C-N outshot the Lions, 17-7. The Eagles edged the Lions in corner kicks 3-0 and each team was called offsides six times. Tori Stajduhar played the entire match in goal for MHU and made eight saves. Tiarna McKenna also played the entire match in the net for the Eagles and made four saves.
The Lions will host SAC rival Brevard College on Friday. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
