Women's Soccer Shuts Out Erskine

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions defeated Erskine 1-0 in women' soccer action Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 3-10 overall while the Flying Fleet fell to 1-11 on the year.
Rachel Blong scored the only goal of the contest at the 28:21 mark. Blong stole the ball from an Erskine defender and beat the Flying Fleet's keeper to the left side. The ball was sent in by Heather Bittle.
The Lions' defense held strong in the second frame to make the final tally 1-0 in favor of the hosts. Mars Hill outshot the Flying Fleet, 16-10. Erskine had nine corner kicks opposed to the Lions who had two. Maslyn Greene and Tori Stajduhar split time in goal for the Lions to combine for the shutout. Greene played the first half while Stajduhar played the final 45 minutes and made six saves. Ashton Burgess played all 90 minutes in goal for Erskine and made nine saves.
Mars Hill will host SAC rival Tusculum on Saturday, October 17. Match time is set for a 1 p.m. start.
