MARS HILL, N.C.- The Mars Hill women's soccer team was unable to overcome a fast start by Tusculum as the Pioneers defeated MHU 3-0 in Meares Stadium on Saturday. Tusculum improves to 8-5 overall and 4-3-1 in the South Atlantic Conference while Mars Hill falls to 3-11 and 1-7.
Taylor Lewis gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at the 4:37 mark as she scored on a breakaway. Carly Mill found the back of the net 40 seconds later as she stole the ball from the MHU goalkeeper and scored her fifth goal of the season for a 2-0 TC lead. Mill wrapped up the scoring as she finished a Katja Andersson free kick from 25 yards out.
Tusculum held a 14-11 advantage in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Hannah Russell had a game-high six shots for Mars Hill.
Miriah Martin made three saves for Tusculum. Maslyn Greene made three saves while Tori Stajduhar made one save for the Lions.
Mars Hill travels to Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. contest.
