Women's Soccer Loses at Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lions lost 3-0 to Newberry Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer competition at the Smith Road Complex. Mars Hill fell to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the league. The Wolves improved to 5-8-2 on the year, 4-6 in the SAC.
Michelle Calmeyn scored Newberry's first goal on a penalty kick in the 31st minute. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
The Wolves added two late goals in the second frame to seal the win. Guadalupe Magana scored from around 35 yards out on a pass from Lindsay Huber in the 76th minute before Calmeyn added her second goal of the contest at the 82:08 mark off a cross from Elizabeth Gutierrez to make the final score 3-0.
Tori Stajduhar played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions and made 11 saves. Rebecca Darley and Alexis Carrillo minded the net for Newberry. Darley recorded two saves while Carrillo added one save in the contest. The Wolves outshot Mars Hill 25-7 in the match. The Wolves edged the Lions in corner kicks, 2-1. Newberry was called offsides three times.
Mars Hill will play at Emmanuel on Wednesday, October 28. Match time is set for a 5 p.m. start.
