Lions drop season opener on road
The Mars Hill women's soccer team dropped their season opener 4-1 on the road against USC Aiken. Gabriella Siegfried scored the lone Lions' goal.

AIKEN, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team dropped their season opener 4-1 on the road against USC Aiken. Gabriella Siegfried scored the lone Lions' goal.
Sarah Moore had two goals and an assist in the victory.
Moore led the Pacers offense with two second half goals. The senior midfielder broke the 1-1 tie 6:04 into the second frame. The goal was assisted on by Casey Rish. Moore struck again less than two minutes later with her second of the game. Her shot went in against the grain inside the left post and put the Pacers up 3-1 early on in the second half.
Catherine McHale added another tally at 57:34, tapping home a rebound to put the Pacers up by three.
The Pacers' Tori Caldwell opened the scoring at 16:16 of the first half, burying a shot from fifteen-yards out behind Lions' netminder Kaitlyn Danglemaier. Moore picked up the assist on the goal.
Siegfried would knot the game up at one at with less than three minutes remaining in the first half. Following a free kick from Leah Hairfield, the sophomore defender was able to get a head on the ball and push it over the goal line.
USC Aiken outshot the Lions 21-4 in the contest. Danglemaier made five saves from nine shots on goal.
Karin Cadwalader made two saves for the win.
The Lions' home opener is set for Saturday, September 2 where they will face off against Southern Wesleyan University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
