Lions strong second half not enough against Barton

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer (1-4) fell to Barton (3-1) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon as part of the Catawba Classic.
Thirty minutes into the contest, the Bulldogs scored their first of the game. A cross from Rebekah Beal was tapped in past Clare Witt by Brenna Keegan for her second of the season.
Mars Hill was outshot 5-2 in the first half, but responded in second half, outshooting Barton 6-3 in the final 45 minutes. However, despite they're flurry of changes, the Bulldogs were able to strike again with under four minutes left in the contest.
Barton earned a free kick opportunity to the top right of the box. A perfect shot from Laisy Scardzzi wrapped itself inside the near post to put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with 3:55 left in the contest.
Paige Thompson had the two best chances for the Lions, but saves from Kristin Davis kept the Lions off the scoresheet.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, September 12 when they open up South Atlantic Conference play against Wingate. The road contest is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
