MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-5-1, 1-2-0 SAC) defeated Coker (1-5-0, 0-2-0 SAC) by a score of 4-1 for their first win of the season.
Sophomore forward Sanne Martinsen scored all four goals for the Lions in the Sunday matinee matchup. Dating back to last year's contest, Martinsen has scored all six Lions' goals versus the Cobras.
Martinsen's first tally came in the 20th minute of play. Taking a Fanny Gustavsson feed, Martinsen lobbed the ball towards the goal. A mishandle by the Coker goalkeeper saw the ball slip between her hands over her head and trickle to the back of the goal.
In the 36th minute, receiving a Samantha Pyle pass, Martinsen booted home her second goal past Sarah Swaim's sprawled out left hand to put the Lions' up by two. Less than a minute later, Martinsen was tripped up inside the box and awarded a penalty shot. She converted to complete the hat-trick.
Martinsen scored her final marker of the day in the 80th minute on a breakaway, started by an Amanda Waskiewicz through pass. Coker's Skylar Davis scored shortly after to break the shutout bid with a header under the crossbar.
The Lions return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 2 as they host the Bulldogs of Wingate. Action is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
