Castellano scores in contest versus Bears

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-7-1) was downed by a score of 4-1 to the visiting Shaw Bears (4-5) Saturday afternoon.
A high-scoring first half saw the all five goals scored. Just over 10 minutes into the contest, Andrea Licea was able to blast the ball under the crossbar to give Shaw the 1-0 lead. Fenja Soeth doubled the lead less than three minutes later for her fourth of the season.
Shy of 16 minutes elapsed in the contest, Azul Mardueno extended the Bears lead to three with her first of the 2019 campaign. In the 30th minute, Philine Diekhoff scored the final Shaw goal of the afternoon.
Just over two minutes later, the Lions were able to break the shutout bid as senior Natasha Castellano lobbed a shot over the head of Caylie Hartman for her first of the season. Julia Klonowska picked up the assist.
The Lions outshot Shaw 19-13, but six saves by Hartman in the first half helped keep Shaw ahead in the game as they won their fourth game of the season.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, October 9 when they host King. The contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
