Newsome comes to Mars Hill University after serving as assistant director of Darlington School Soccer Academy where he directed the girls program and played a large role in the development of young players and sending each of them to high level universities across the country. Prior to his time at Darlington, Newsome served as the head women's soccer coach at Auburn University Montgomery and director of coaching at FC Torjager. During his time at AUM he owned a record of 42-28-6 and coached six NAIA All-Americans and 18 Southern States Athletic Conference All-Conference players.  His teams earned two NSCAA Team All-Academic honors, while seven of his student athletes earned NAIA All-Academic honors.

Newsome is no stranger to Mars Hill University as he is a 1997 graduate of MHU and holds a B.S. in Physical Education.  He is a member of the NSCAA and holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma, as well as a United States Soccer Federation "B" Coaching License and a KNVB Advanced coaching certificate.  Currently he is a Region Staff Coach for the Olympic Development Program in Region 3 and 10 years for ODP coaching experience with Georgia and Alabama.  He is also a staff coach for the U.S. Soccer's National Training Centers in Georgia.

Prior to his time in Montgomery, he was the women's assistant soccer coach at NCAA DI Georgia Southern University for three years and a staff coach for Coastal Georgia Soccer Association.  After a short stint as a high school teacher and boys’ varsity coach at Madison High School, Newsome began his collegiate coaching career as the men's assistant soccer coach at the University of South Carolina Upstate and helped guide them to a birth into the NCAA National Tournament and coached two NCAA All-America's and seven Peach Belt All-Conference players.

Newsome stated, “I am thrilled to be coming back to Mars Hill University. It is an honor to be the Head Women’s Soccer Coach.  I would like to thank President Dan Lunsford and Director of Athletics David Riggins for this opportunity.  I look forward to many great seasons at MHU.”
