Conference Records Fall for Lions Swimmers
Swim teams set conference records at Appalachian Swim Conference Meet
BAURBERSVILLE, Ky.-- Mars Hill's swim teams competed at the Appalachian Swim Conference Championship this past weekend. The men finished in fourth place, and the women finished fifth overall.
Mars Hill swimmers broke five conference records, and 11 team records on the weekend. Individually, Nicole Day set a conference record in the 200 Back, while men's swimmer Hudson Tucker set conference records in the 100 Free and 100 Back. Tucker's 100 Back time ranks him ninth in the nation.
The men's 200 and 400 Medley Relays each established new conference records. The 200 team was made up of Tucker, Tyler Treadway, Audley Elder, and Justin Gale. The 400 was made up of Trey McGraw, Tucker, Treadway, and Elder.
Eight National cuts were made by Mars Hill swimmers.
Additional notable performances from the women's team included a third place finish by the 200 Medley Relay team. The team was made up of Day, Miranda Schmidt, Nikki Holt, and Maggie Mills. Day also took first place in the 200 Back, fourth place in the 50 Free, and fifth place in the 100 Back.
Holt took fourth place in both the 200 Fly and 200 Free, and added a fifth place finish in the 100 Fly.
Other notable women's performers included: Megan Bartlett (4th- 200 Breast, 9th- Mile), Schmidt (6th- 100 Breast), Mills (9th- 50 Free), and Lena Palo (8th-100 Free).
Other notable performances from men's swimmers included a second place finish the 100 Fly by Tucker, and first and second place finishes respectively in the 200 and 100 Breast by Elder. McGraw took third in the 300 Free, fifth in the 200 Back, and second in the 200 IM, and Treadway finished second in the 200 Fly, eighth in the 50 Free, and sixth in the 100 Fly.
Wheeling Jesuit took the overall men's and women's championship at the meet. Renata Cabaral of Union College took home the Women's Swimmer of the Meet, while Henrique Fructuozo of Wheeling Jesuit took home the top men's award.
Mars Hill swimmers will be in action again on Feb. 25-26 at the Last Chance Meet in Athens, Ga.
