Mars Hill downs Coker in three
The Mars Hill volleyball team (15-12, 9-9 SAC) defeated Coker (12-14, 4-13 SAC) in three sets on the road Sunday afternoon.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (15-12, 9-9 SAC) defeated Coker (12-14, 4-13 SAC) in three sets on the road Sunday afternoon.
Tied at three in the first set, Mars Hill won six straight points and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set. With the score at 14-8 in favor of Mars Hill, the Lions would extend their lead to double digits by winning nine straight points. Five of those points came from Coker attacking errors.
Errors would continue to plague the Cobras at the start of the second set. Mars Hill won the first 10 points of the set, eight of which came from Coker attacking errors. The Cobras would record 14 attack errors in the set. Sally Anne Johnson recorded three of her game-high eight blocks in the frame.
The third set was evenly contest until the 8-7 mark, where Coker held the lead. Mars Hill won seven of the next 10 points to hold a 15-10 lead midway through the frame. The Lions would close out Coker going on a 10-5 run to snap their six-game losing streak.
Taylor du Bray lead all players with 12 kills on the afternoon and Rami Mullen had a game-high 19 assists. Kara Overholt led the team with 15 digs. Coker hit -.040 on the day with 33 errors.
Johnson finished the game with a team-high seven kills to go along with her eight blocks. Abby King had 12 assists and 10 digs on the day for a double-double while Ully Martins led all players with 19 digs. Both Johnson and Maddie Spurgeon hit a game-high .429 in the game.
The Lions face Tusculum on Tuesday, October 30th in their regular season road finale. First serve is set for a 7 p.m. start.
