Seniors recognized in regular season finale
The Mars Hill volleyball team (16-12, 10-10 SAC) dropped their 2018 regular season finale in four sets to Carson-Newman (15-12, 11-9 SAC) inside Stanford Arena Saturday afternoon.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (16-12, 10-10 SAC) dropped their 2018 regular season finale in four sets to Carson-Newman (15-12, 11-9 SAC) inside Stanford Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Lions took set one, hitting .233 as a team. Leading the way for the Lions was Elizabeth Kaeser who knocked down seven of her game-high 16 kills in the opening frame. Marnie Streeter led the way for the Eagles with six kills on 16 attempts.
With the match tied at nine in the second set, the Eagles would win three straight points, all from Megan Oldernburger. She had one kill and two aces. The teams would battle back and forth until the final few points of the set. Carson-Newman led 23-18 before the Lions would reel off four points to pull within two points. Kills from Streeter and Katie Parnell would tie the game at one.
Mars Hill would begin the third set on a 5-1 run before Carson-Newman would win four straight points to tie the game. The Eagles would battle back in the middle of the set, trailing 16-11, to win seven straight points and go up 18-16 late in the frame. Carson-Newman would end the set on a 7-2 run to go up 2-1 in the contest.
The Eagles would close out the match by never trailing in the fourth set. The win split the season series between the teams and earned Carson-Newman the five seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference tournament. Mars Hill sits in the seven spot.

Streeter led the Eagles with 16 kills on the afternoon and added five digs. Erin Edwards hit a game-high .344 with 14 kills on 32 attempts. Morgan Ballard had a team-high 34 digs while Madison Rademacher picked up the double-double with 23 assists and 13 digs.
Kaeser earned a double-double with 16 kills and 20 digs. She hit a team-high .282. Sally Anne Johnson knocked down seven blocks and six kills. Sara Pasour had a game-high 25 assists and added 11 digs with one kill. Ully Martins had a game-high 35 digs.
Prior to the start of the contest, the five Mars Hill seniors were honored on Senior Day. The seniors included Sarah Lorick, Abby King, Elizabeth Kaeser, Dayanna Barbosa and Maddie Spurgeon.
Mars Hill will take on the No. 2 seed Anderson Trojans in Anderson, South Carolina on Tuesday, November 6th in SAC Tournament Quarterfinal action. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
