Bio

Gregg Munn was hired as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Mars Hill University in March of 2018.

Munn enters his fourth season at the helm of the program totaling a 13-22-5 record over the past three seasons.

In his first season, Munn led the Lions to being ranked in the Southeast Region for several weeks and had Sebastian Bertilsson, Oscar Mitchell, and Jeppe Christensen named to All-SAC Teams. In 2019, Jeppe Christensen was again named an All-SAC second team selection at defender.

In 2020, Munn led the Lions to their first SAC tournament post-season appearance in four seasons. Sebastian Bertilsson was named First Team All-SAC forward and led the conference with goals and points in the regular season. Jeppe Christensen was named in the All-SAC Second Team as a defender and Luke Manley was awarded Honorable All-Conference at defender in his freshman year. Brennan Whalen was also twice named Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in goal.

Christensen was also named South Atlantic Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2020 for his achievements on the field and in the classroom. Christensen currently holds a 3.96 GPA.

Munn finished the campaign being named South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2020-21.  

In the 2020-21 campaign, three men’s soccer lions were acknowledged for their efforts on and off the field. Bertilsson was awarded the Mars Hill University Athletics Male Athlete of the Year Award. Christensen was recognized for having Mars Hill University Athletics Highest Male GPA and Jayson Moorman, a senior out of Florida, was named Mars Hill University Athletics Man of the Year for his efforts on the field, in the classroom, and in the Mars Hill community.

Munn also led the Lions to their first United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award with a cumulative GPA of 3.05.

During his tenure as head coach, Munn also serves as Men’s Chair of the Faculty-Athletic Committee, a member of the Mars Hill Experience Committee, a founding member of President Floyd's Leadership Cohort at Mars Hill University, and in 2020, was invited to be involved in the NCAA Identity Workshop in Indianapolis. In 2021-22, Munn will also sit as chair for men’s soccer in the SAC as well as a member of the International Education Steering Committee for Mars Hill University.

Munn, a native of Falkirk, Scotland, was a former standout and captain at Mars Hill University. In his four years as a student athlete at Mars Hill, Munn started 75 games and played an integral part in the program’s two NCAA National Tournament Appearances (2011 & 2012) and the program’s South Atlantic Conference Championship in 2012. Throughout his playing career at Mars Hill, Munn picked up many individual and team accolades including First Team All-SAC Defender (2012), Capital One Academic All-District Team (2012), NCCSIA All-State First Team Defender (2012), SAC All-Tournament Team Defender and Second Team All-SAC Defender (2013). In 2011, Munn helped anchor a defense which saw Mars Hill lead the conference with fewest goals against per game (0.64) as well as being ranked in the top-15 in the nation in that category.

In the spring of 2014, Munn served as an assistant coach with the men’s and women's programs at Mars Hill before graduating Magna Cum Laude in Physical Education with his concentration in Coaching.

Following graduation, Munn was hired by the Charlotte Soccer Academy in Charlotte, N.C., as a Technical Director of Coaching and Staff Coach. Shortly after, Munn was promoted to be the Director of Coaching for the club across various age groups where he has held that role until 2018. Munn also served a short stint with the Queen’s University of Charlotte women’s soccer program before accepting this position at Mars Hill.

Prior to relocating to the United States, Munn played with the Stirling Albion Football Club and represented Scotland at the U18 International level in 2007 and 2008. During this time, Munn was on the coaching staff with the Falkirk Football Club and the Stirling Albion Football Club as well as attending Forth Valley College in Falkirk, Scotland, where he earned a Higher National Diploma in Sports Coaching with Development of Sport.

Munn also worked with a UK based recruitment service provider, Sporting Futures USA. In this position, Munn assisted in the identification and placement of student athletes at various programs in the United States working closely with Managing Director, David Binnie.

Munn currently holds his USSF C License and USSF National Youth License with the United States Soccer Federation to add to his existing Scottish FA Licenses.

Munn resides in Asheville, N.C. with his wife, Stephanie, and daughter, Charlie.
