Athletic Highlights: November 26 – December 3, 2018
Men's Basketball: Mars Hill split their two games this past week, defeating Southern Wesleyan on the road by a score of 76-67, but falling in their South Atlantic Conference opener on the road versus Newberry by a score of 92-83. Austin Gilyard and Ja'Shawn Brooks each had 17 points versus the Warriors. Brooks set a career-high with 32 points versus the Wolves.
Women's Basketball: The Lions dropped both contests, falling to Belmont Abbey by a score of 70-60 and to Newberry in their SAC opener on the road by a score of 57-33. Tatum Boggs led the Lions' offense in both contests, including 26 points versus the Crusaders.
Men's Track and Field: The Lions opened their season with two meets in the past week. On Thursday at the Montreat Indoor Kickoff, Tyler Holloway set a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 12.70 meters. Brad Barbee and Noah Allison won the 3,000 and 5,000 meter races, respectively. On Saturday, the Lions placed eighth at the Appalachian Open Indoor Track Meet.
Women's Track and Field: Mars Hill began their 2018-19 campaign on Thursday at the Montreat Indoor Kickoff. Sydney Britt won the 3,000 meter race with a time of 12:12.69. On Saturday, the Lions placed seventh at the Appalachian Open Indoor Track Meet. Tiffany Holloway set a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 12.54 meters.
Men's Swimming: Mars Hill downed Milligan 176-61 on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. Vitor Goncalves, Harrsion Butler, Michael Piumelli and Elijah Sears won a total of five individual races and were members of the winning 200 yard medley relay team. Brendon Cyprianos and Erwin Ortiz each won three individual races apiece.
Women's Swimming: Kathryn Boland led the Lions on their Senior Day over UNC Pembroke and Milligan. The lone senior on the team won three individual races and was a member of the winning 200 yard medley relay team. The Lions defeated UNC Pembroke by a score of 190-49 and Milligan by a mark of 168-73 to run their record to 9-0.
