Taylor and Maxey Earn All-America Status
PITTSBURG, Kan. – Sophomore standout wide receiver Keshaun Taylor and senior defensive lineman Johnny Maxey have been named to the 2015 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Team.
PITTSBURG, Kan. – Sophomore standout wide receiver Keshaun Taylor and senior defensive lineman Johnny Maxey have been named to the 2015 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Team. A total of 197 players earned some form of Don Hansen All-America honors with Taylor finding himself on the Second-Team offense and Maxey landed a spot on the Third-T eam defense.
Taylor comes off of a magnificent season that saw the Mars Hill Lions go 6-5 overall, the most wins since winning six during the 2012-13 season. Keshaun absolutely dominated the offensive categories for the Lions as he lead the team in receptions (79), receptions per game (7.2), yards (1183), yards per game (107.5), and touchdowns (10).
Not only did Taylor excel within the team he also registered at the top of the list in conference statistics as well. He led the South Atlantic Conference in yards (763) as well as yards per game (104.9). He finished second with 47 receptions and 15.6 yards per catch during league action.
This accolade goes along with his First-Team All-Region, First-Team All-SAC, and his D2 Football 2015 All-America Honorable Mention.
Maxey finishes off what has been a stellar career with the Lions garnering this prestigious recognition. Over his five years with the Lions program he has amassed 205 tackles, 14 sacks, and 23 tackles for loss.
Johnny was a catalyst for the Mars Hill defense, standing alone with a team-leading three sacks and ranking second on the team in three separate categories: tackles (82), tackles per game (7.5), and tackles for loss (7.5).
Maxey's numbers were noticeable within the conference as well, landing ninth in tackles per game with 7.5 and 13th in sacks. Maxey adds this award to his First-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-SAC honors.
