Men's Basketbsll Falls at Carson-Newman
Mars Hill’s men’s basketball team lost on the road at Carson-Newman 91-78, Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Mars Hill's men's basketball team lost on the road at Carson-Newman 91-78, Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The Lions fell to 4-17 overall and 2-13 in the conference. The Eagles improved to 13-8 overall and 10-5 in the SAC.
Vernon Jackson led Mars Hill with 16 points and seven rebounds. Valentin Bauer followed with 14 points and three assists. Bennett Wilson rounded out the double-digit scorers for MHU with 11 points. The Lions connected on 44.6% (29-65) of their field goal attempts, 33.3% of their three-point shots (6-18) and 66.7% (14-21) of their shots at the free throw line.
Zach Pangallo led all scorers with 25 points. Charles Clark followed with 20 points and six boards. Shaun Jones added a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. C-N won the battle of the boards, 40-23. The Eagles scored 42 points in the paint.
A three-pointer by Pangallo with 11:43 left in the first half gave C-N a 27-12 advantage. The Lions fought back out scoring the Eagles 22-13 over the next 10 minutes of play of play to trim the deficit to just six points (40-34) with just 2:42 left in the first half after Jackson scored inside. The Eagles went into the locker room at halftime holding 46-39 advantage.
Mars Hill went on a 13-0 run to cut the Eagle lead to just four points (59-55) with 15:00 left in the contest after Justin Hartfield nailed a three-pointer. The Eagles answered going on a 15-2 run to take a 17-point lead after Charles Clark scored inside with 6:18 leaft in regulation. The Eagles went on to win by 13 points (91-78).
Mars Hill will host SAC opponent Newberry on Saturday, February 4. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
