Men's Basketball Loses at Lincoln Memorial
Mars Hill lost to no.4 Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Monday night at Tex Turner Arena.
HARROGATE, Tenn. – Mars Hill lost to no.4 Lincoln Memorial 156-69 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Monday night at Tex Turner Arena. The Lions fell to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the league. The Railsplitters improved to 9-0 on the season, 3-0 in the SAC.
Austin Gilyard scored his career high as a Lion recording 25 points hitting 7-12 from the field, 3-5 from three-point range and was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Brandon Reeves followed with nine points while Charles Moore tallied eight points in the contest. Mars Hill connected on 30.8% (20-65) of their field goal attempts, 34.8% (8-23) of their three-point attempts and 77.8% (21-27) of their foul shots.
Trevon Shaw led all scorers with 35 points hitting 11-13 three-point attempts. Cornelius Taylor followed with 19 points while Deshawn Patterson added 18 points. Alex Dahling came off the bench to score 17 points and pull down four rebounds. LMU hit 73.4% (58-79) of their field goals, 69.8% (30-43) of their three-point shots and 90.9% (10-11) of their foul shots. The Railsplitters won the battle of the boards, 50-22. LMU scored 54 points in the paint, 38 points off Mars Hill miscues and received 76 points from their bench.
The first five minutes were closely played. After a tip-in by Nassyr Daniel at the 15:18 mark, Mars Hill trailed by only two points (11-9). LMU then scored 14 unanswered points over the next three minutes to lead by 16 points (25-9) after Shaw hit one of his six three-pointers of the first half. The Railsplitters went on a 38-15 run to lead by 39 points with 3:14 left in the first period when Patterson hit a shot from behind the arc. LMU took a 70-34 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Railsplitters hit 14 three-pointers in the first frame. In the first half, LMU shot 70% (28-40) from the floor and 63.6% (14-22) from three-point range. Shaw and Taylor scored 20 and 17 points in the first half, respectively.
Mars Hill would not get any closer in the second half. LMU started the second stanza on a 23-9 run to lead by 50 points (93-43) with 14:40 left in regulation after Shaw hit a three-pointer. The Railsplitters would cruise the rest of the way to secure their ninth consecutive victory.
The Lions will host SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, December 13. Tip-off in Stanford Arena is slated for 8 p.m.
