ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (4-3-0, 1-2-0 SAC) dropped a hard fought battle, 1-0, against the Anderson Trojans (2-3-0, 1-1-0 SAC) Saturday night in Anderson.
Just over 10 minutes into the match, the Trojans were awarded a free kick. Lee Esteban's attempt was headed in by Lars Kaula from three yards out past the Mars Hill goalkeeper for the lone score of the night.
The Lions outshot Anderson in the first 45 minutes, 6-3, with the lone one on target from the foot of Joakim Lien.
Anderson's offense found another gear in the second half, outshooting the Lions 12-4, but Brian Salzman stopped all five shots directed at target to give the Lions a chance throughout the half. Mars Hill pressured late in the game with several corner kick and free kick chances, but the Anderson defense held firm and preserved the shutout.
The Trojans outshot the Lions 15-10 in the contest. Gal Elyashiv had three saves in the shutout. Salzman made six saves in the losing effort.
The Lions return home on Wednesday, September 26 with a 7 p.m. tilt against Catawba.
