Plougmand nets two in Lions' win over Mount Olive

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (1-0) defeated Mount Olive (0-1) by a score of 2-1 Thursday night inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
Peter Plougmand struck twice in the first half, propelling the Lions' to victory. In the 24th minute, Plougmand collected a loose ball inside the box and blew it by the Trojans' goalkeeper.
In the waning moments of the half, Plougmand capped off an outstanding individual effort for his second of the game. The junior forward sliced through three defenders and caught the keeper leaning, putting it behind him to extend the Lions' lead entering the half.
In the 48th minute, the Trojans cut the deficit to one as Amin Ferreira scored his first of the year.
Plougmand led all players with six shot attempts followed by two from Aimar Banuls. Matti Pickel, Luke Manley, Lorenz Hoover, Muhammad Bilal, Diego Fernandez, Riley Browning, and Jop Bleijlevens each recorded a shot.
James Price made four saves in the victory.
Mars Hill travels to Tigerville, South Carolina on Saturday, September 2 when they square off against North Greenville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
