Four Lions Earn All-Academic Recognition
The Mars Hill men’s cross country team has earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Team All-Academic recognition for the fifth consecutive year.
NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The Mars Hill men's cross country team has earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Team All-Academic recognition for the fifth consecutive year.
Four Lion runners earned individual All-Academic honors, which were announced on Friday. Senior Brady Adcock was named to the team for the third time, junior Kiel Bollero earned All-Academic honors for the second consecutive season, while junior Derek Gibson and freshman Nathan Jones are first-time honorees.
This is the 10th time that Mars Hill has earned team All-Academic honors. The Lions completed the season with a 3.268 team GPA.
A total of 212 men in Division II who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2013 cross country season. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his regional championship (total Division II teams in the region multiplied by seven runners per team) or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.
Those 212 men hail from 96 different institutions and 22 different conferences. Indiana (Pa.) was the best represented program with six individual earning All-Academic honors, followed by Saint Leo and Tampa with five apiece.
Eleven individuals from five South Atlantic Conference schools earned individual All-Academic honors. Five SAC institutions won Team All-Academic recognition.
Last fall, Mars Hill won its 17th straight SAC Men's Cross Country title. The Lions placed fourth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional championship.
