Griggs Wins Southeast Regional Meet; Lions Qualify for National Meet
Mars Hill punched its ticket to the NCAA national meet with a runner-up finish. Alex Griggs was the individual winner
WINGATE, N.C.- The Mars Hill men's cross country team has advanced to the NCAA national championship meet for the second straight year after finishing in second place at the Southeast Regional meet on Saturday morning on the campus of Wingate University.
Senior Alex Griggs claimed his second win of the season on the Wingate cross country course as he completed the 10k run in 32:33.40. Griggs was the winner of the Bulldog Stampede on September 26. Nathan Jones finished in 11th place after crossing the finish line in 33:45.40. Nick Resor recorded a 23rd place finish with a time of 34:33.50, closely followed by Cesar Reyes in 24th place with a final time of 34:36.30.
Gil Gilreath finished the race in 30th place, breaking the tape in 34:53.00 as the final Lion in a scoring position. Brandon Beard completed the race with a 10k time of 35:20.50, followed by Noah Allison's time of 37:58.70.
Mount Olive was the winner with a team score of 52, followed by MHU with 89 and Queens with 104.
The NCAA national championship meet will take place on Saturday, November 21 in Joplin, Mo. on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.
