Mars Hill opens SAC slate versus E&H
The Mars Hill softball team (9-11, 0-2 SAC) fell to Emory & Henry (9-8, 2-2 SAC) by scores of 8-5 and 16-7 Sunday afternoon in their South Atlantic Conference opener.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill softball team (9-11, 0-2 SAC) fell to Emory & Henry (9-8, 2-2 SAC) by scores of 8-5 and 16-7 Sunday afternoon in their South Atlantic Conference opener.
GAME ONE: E&H 8, MHU 5
Emory & Henry used a five-run second inning to come away with the 8-5 game one victory.
A pair of two-run singles off the bats of Danielle King and Olivia Yates highlighted the second inning. The Lions rallied over the third and fourth frames, plating a run in each to tie the game. In the third, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Meghan Murphy plated Payton Little. Little's RBI double in the bottom of the fourth tied the game as Leah Grimes scored the tying run.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Ashlyn Rachon was hit by a pitch, plating the eventual game-winning run. Yates' two-run home run in the sixth bumped the Wasps' lead to three.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the first, plating three. Little reached on a fielding error, allowing Grimes and Miranda Marks to score. Little later scored off of a Micki Maxson sacrifice fly to right field.
Maxson led the Lions with two hits while Little and Grimes led the team with two runs scored.
GAME TWO: E&H 16, MHU 7 – 6 Innings
The Wasps clinched the Sunday sweep, scoring 16 runs on 16 hits in game two.
Leading 4-0 after the first, a seven-run second boosted the Wasps lead to double-digits, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Rachel Hill. Later in the inning, Olivia Yates smashed a two-run home run.
The Lions plated three over the third and fourth innings. In the fifth, trailing by nine, the Lions scored three with a pair of RBI singles off the bats of Jessica Senn and Zoie Pistel.
Emory & Henry's bats stayed alive late in the contest, plating four more runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Ashlyn Rachon's two-run home run. In the bottom of the sixth, Farley Park hit a solo home run over the left field wall.
Park, Pistel, and Maia Sholter led the team with two hits apiece while Leah Grimes and Meghan Murphy led the Lions with two RBI apiece. Yates earned her third win of the season for the Wasps.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 12 when they face Catawba on the road. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
