MARS HILL, N.C. - Goals from Aleonya Hunter and Breona Tate ended a four-game skid for the Mars Hill Lions as they defeated Coker, 1-0, at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Wednesday evening.
In the eighth minute, Hunter dribbled the ball between a defender's legs and was all alone against Cobras' goalkeeper, Samantha Hoffman. She tucked the shot underneath the falling goalkeeper to put the Lions up by one early in the contest.
Tate would cap off the win with her second of the year. With less than eight minutes remaining in the second half, Tate drove down the left wing and shot the ball against the grain, tucking it inside the far right post.
Kaitlyn Danglemaier made three saves in the shutout victory.
Mars Hill picks up their first conference win and advances to 2-5-1 (1-3 SAC) on the year. Coker falls to 1-6-1 (0-4 SAC).
The Lions go on the road to face Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday, October 4 to kick-off a two-game road trip. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
