Women's Tennis Picked Eleventh In Preseason Poll
ROCK HILL, S.C. –Wingate was voted first in the South Atlantic Conference’s women’s tennis annual preseason poll, it was announced today by the league office.
ROCK HILL, S.C. –Wingate was voted first in the South Atlantic Conference's women's tennis annual preseason poll, it was announced today by the league office. The League's head coaches gave the Bulldogs six first place votes and a total of 135 points.
Queens was voted second with six first place votes and 134 points. Tusculum was voted No. 3 in the poll with 114 points, while Anderson was voted No. 4 with 87 points. Newberry came in fifth with 86 points and Lincoln Memorial was selected No. 6 with 80 points. Carson-Newman placed No. 7 with 65 points and Lenior-Rhyne was voted No. 8 with 61 points. Coker took the No. 9 spot with 59 points. Catawba followed with 52 points at No. 10, ahead of Mars Hill, who received 29 points. Brevard finished poll with 20 points.
The League also announced its preseason All-SAC teams. Queens posted a pair of doubles honorees in Carlotta Nassi and Melissa Laing and Marta Gonzalez and Caroline Nielson. Claudia De Andreis and Maria Garcia of Wingate were also tabbed first team doubles.
In singles, Nassi and Laing represented Queens on the squad. Newberry's Elizabeth Williamson, De Andreis of Wingate, Franziska Funke from Tusculum and Marta Pinol of Lincoln Memorial also earned first team singles honors.
The 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis season gets underway on Feb. 1. The 2017 SAC Women's Tennis Championship is slated for April 20-22 in Rock Hill, SC.
