Lions Fall to Francis Marion in Five Sets

FMU prevailed 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-9. Four players recorded double-digit kills to lead the Patriots, paced by Emily Sears with 16. Marissa Wixson led Mars Hill with 15 kills and added eight digs. Courtney Worthington notched 23 assists, while Maggie Murphy added 24 digs for MHU. Mars Hill fell to 1-1 on the season. Francis Marion opens the season 1-0.
The Patriots notched 61 kills to Mars Hill's 47. Francis Marion notched 12 service aces to the Lions' four. MHU hit .184 on the evening, while FMU recorded a .173 attack percentage.
Toni Cole added 12 kills for MHU. MaryKate Griffin notched her first-career outing with double-digit kills, recording 10 and adding six digs and 2.5 blocks. Hannah Wilson recorded 13 assists and seven digs for the Lions.
Jessica Imbimbo record 14 kills for the Patriots, while Alexzandra Reed and Megan Mooney added 10-apiece. Kailey Smith spread the ball around for the FMU attack, finishing with 52 assists. Rebekah Davis added a match-high 28 digs.
Mars Hill continues play tomorrow in the Francis Marion Tournament. The Lions will face USC Aiken at 9:00 a.m. before concluding play with a 5:00 p.m. match against Lees-McRae.
