Athletic Highlights: September 25th – October 1st
Football: The Lions suffered their first defeat of the season, falling to Limestone by a score of 27-23. JR Martin threw for 218 yards and two scores while Beau DeBerry was on the receiving end of both passes. Landon Honeycutt led the Lions with eight tackles. The Lions host Erskine this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. during Homecoming weekend.
Men's Soccer: Mars Hill went 0-1-1 this past week, falling to Catawba, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon after drawing 2-2 with Carson-Newman Wednesday night. Peter Plougmand, Jorge Perez Prada, and Jop Bleijlevens scored the Lions' goals this week with Perez Prada leading all players with three points (1g, 1a). Mars Hill takes on Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday afternoon before hosting Wingate Friday night as part of Homecoming weekend.
Women's Soccer: The Lions went 0-1-1 this past week, falling 1-0 to the No. 3 Catawba Indians, and drawing earlier in the week with Carson-Newman, 0-0. Mars Hill takes on Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday afternoon before hosting Wingate Friday night as part of Homecoming weekend.
Volleyball: Mars Hill was defeated by Carson-Newman Friday night, falling in four sets. Jada Cannon led the Lions with nine kills while Jordan Schmucker added 30 assists. The Lions host Catawba on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will travel to Emory & Henry Friday night.
Men's Cross Country: The Lions placed 31st at the Live in Lou Classic with Kelvin Kiprop placing 14th overall out of over 300 runners. The Lions run at the Royals XC Invitational on Friday.
Women's Cross Country: Mars Hill placed 45th out of over 140 teams at the Live in Lou Classic with Hannah Frazer turning in the best Lions' time. The Lions run at the Royals XC Invitational on Friday.
Men's Swimming: The Lions placed second at the conclusion of their first meet of the year, the King Invitational. Thomas Gibson won three events and set a school record in the 50 yard freestyle. Andres Bodington won three events followed by two from Joash McKonie. The Lions return to the pool on Saturday when they face Emmanuel.
Women's Swimming: Mars Hill placed eighth at the King Invitational, their first meet of the year. Maria Arrabal placed third in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.74, earning 16 points for the team. The Lions return to the pool on Saturday when they face Emmanuel.
Women's Golf: The Lions placed third out of four teams at the Newberry Women's Golf Invitational.
