Mars Hill Pink Out set for Homecoming
Mars Hill University encourages fans to wear pink to raise awareness for breast cancer at the Homecoming football game when the Lions host Wingate this Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill University encourages fans to wear pink to raise awareness for breast cancer at the Homecoming football game when the Lions host Wingate this Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The Mars Hill Lions will be donning pink socks against the Bulldogs to show their support of the cause.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) will be collecting donations at the concession stand throughout the contest. All proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. In 2017, it's estimated that about 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women will be breast cancers, per breastcancer.org.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and was founded in 1985. The pink ribbon symbol has become synonymous for survivors and raising awareness.
