Mars Hill men’s basketball team lost on the road to Pfeiffer 79-57
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team lost on the road to Pfeiffer 79-57 on Saturday afternoon in Merner Gym. Pfeiffer improves to 3-6 while Mars Hill drops to 7-4.
Michael Carson led Mars Hill with 17 points, followed by Kevin Haynes with 12. Thomas Anderson pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Lions.
AJ Clark scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Falcons. Mike Smith scored 14 points with a 10 point effort from Josh Calhoun. Silvere Aluko led Pfeiffer with eight boards.
After Pfeiffer scored the game's first five points, the Lions went on a 7-0 run to take a 7-5 lead with 16:30 to play. Clark gave Pfeiffer a 10-7 lead on a 3-pointer at the 15:28 mark as the Falcons went on an 18-6 run to take a 28-13 lead with just under seven minutes to go in the half. Pfeiffer led 39-21 at halftime.
Mars Hill cut the deficit to 15, 41-26, following an Anderson free throw with 18:10 to play. Pfeiffer went on a 20-3 run to take a 61-29 lead with 9:01 remaining and led by as much as 34. The Lions made five of their last six shots to cut the deficit to a half-low 18 as time expired.
Pfeiffer outshot Mars Hill 53.3 percent to 30.3 percent and sank six of nine 3-point attempts.
Mars Hill will close out 2014 with an exhibition contest at NCAA Division I member UNC Greensboro on December 31st at 2 p.m.
