Men's Basketball Beats Queens at the Buzzer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Isaiah Cuthbertson hit a layup with 0.3 second left in regulation to lift the Lions over Queens 74-73 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Saturday evening at the Levine Center – Curry Arena. Mars hill improved to 10-14 overall and 5-13 in the SAC. The Royals fell to 14-10 overall, 11-7 in the league.
Isaiah Cuthbertson scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win. Michael Carson led all scorers with 23 points followed by Justin Yeargin who came off the bench to add 12 points. Thomas Anderson rounded out the double-digit scorers for MHU with 10. The Lions connected on 48.1-percent of their shots from the field (26-54), 60-percent from behind the arc (9-15).
Sean Morgan led Queens with 17 points and nine boards followed by Rob Lewis with 14 points. Queens won the battle of the boards, 39-30 and scored 46 points in the paint.
After Jared Hendryx hit a layup to put the Royals up five points (16-11), the Lions went on a 26-7 run to take their largest lead of the game of 14 points (37-23) after Carson nailed a 3-pointer with 4:09 left in the first half. Mars Hill held a 10-point advantage (41-31) at the intermission.
A pair of free throws by Yeargin at the 9:04 mark of the second half gave MHU an 11-point lead (59-48) before Queens began their comeback. The Royals outscored the Lions 25-13 over the next nine minutes to take a one-point lead, their first and only of the second half, after Jedarian Jackson hit a shot from behind the arc to give Queens a 73-72 advantage with just two seconds left in regulation. Cuthbertson scored on the ensuing possession to lead the Lions to the conference road victory in Charlotte.
Mars Hill will host SAC rival Tusculum in Stanford Arena on Wednesday, February 18. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
