MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (5-9, 2-6 SAC) was felled by Anderson (7-7, 5-3 SAC) by a score of 17-6 Saturday afternoon.
In a defensive battle of a first period, Anderson's Logan Gaddis netted the lone goal in the stanza with 4:02 remaining. The Trojans held Mars Hill scoreless in the second, netting five goals to go up 6-0 into the third.
Austin Stroud netted Mars Hill's first goal of the contest with 4:17 elapsed in the third. The goal was sandwiched between four Trojans' markers.
The fourth quarter saw offensive bursts by both teams as they combined for 12 goals. Josh McCallion scored three goals in the frame for the hat-trick. Braden Hoskyn and George Yanssens each scored while Cole Pickell, Joey Baumgardt, Marius Robinson, and AJ Howland each picked up assists.
McCallion led the Lions with three points (3g). Steven Smith made a season-high 22 saves.
At the conclusion of the contest, seniors Jamir Epps, Zachary Martin, Ben Clark, Steven Smith, Brandon Drumm, Marius Robinson, Jaylan Gaines, George Yanssens, Cole Pickell, Paxton Workman, Joey Baumgardt, Braden Hoskyn, and Jovanny Garcia-Melgar were each recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the program.
The Lions wrap up the 2024 season on the road against the No. 1 ranked Limestone Saints. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
