Lions sweep Bluefield State

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (15-18) swept Bluefield State (4-25) by scores of 12-0 and 12-3 Sunday afternoon at Ponder Field.
GAME ONE: MHU 12, BSU 0 (5 Innings)
The Lions held Bluefield State to just two hits in their game one shutout victory.
Mars Hill plated four runs apiece in both the second and third innings. Ella Brooks collected three RBI in that span. Jessica Senn recorded two RBI singles.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions scored three more runs to clinch the win, highlighted by Katie Todd's two-run double.
Kayla Gallagher struck out nine in the win.
GAME TWO: MHU 12, BSU 3 (5 Innings)
The Mars Hill offense continued to roll into game two, defeating the Big Blue 12-3 to complete the Sunday sweep.
The Lions scored six in the first inning as Farley Park's RBI single opened the scoring. After allowing two in the top of the third, Meghan Murphy responded with a solo shot in the bottom of the stanza; her first home run of her career.
Mars Hill scored five in the bottom of the fifth to close out the day, capped off by Park's two-run double to center.
Park led all players with two hits and three RBI. Kristyn Ezzo added two RBI and earned the win, striking out eight in the contest.
Mars Hill returns to action on Thursday, April 6 when they face Erskine on the road. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
