Glymph Ties SAC Scoring Record in Victory Over Brevard
Camille Glymph tied the South Atlantic Conference record for points in a game with 45 as Mars Hill defeated Brevard 88-42 on Senior Night
MARS HILL, N.C. – Senior Camille Glymph tied the South Atlantic Conference record for points in a game with 45 as Mars Hill defeated Brevard 88-42 on Senior Night in Stanford Arena. Mars Hill improves to 11-15 overall and 9-12 in the league while Brevard drops to 8-17 and 6-15. The Lions' 46-point margin of victory is their largest since a 54-point victory over Newberry in 2002.
Glymph tied Jasmine Gunn's 45-point output on a 3-pointer with 3:06 remaining that gave Mars Hill an 84-36 lead. She broke Sonia Gahagan's school record of 42 points and is the 11th player in league history to score 40 or more points in a single game.
Genice Lane finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Cadence Wilmoth scored nine points, followed by Victoria Leroy with eight. Raven Brown tied a career-high with 10 rebounds. Senior Katie Stevens had a game-high four assists with three steals and two points. Mars Hill had a great night on defense, as Brevard's 23.1 field goal percentage is the lowest by a Lion opponent this season.
Madison Lenox led Brevard with 13 points. Hadara Bannister scored six points, followed by Nicole Graham with five.
The Lions opened the game on a 6-0 run and led by 21, 26-5, at the midpoint of the half. A Glymph 3-pointer at the 3:10 mark gave Mars Hill a 41-9 lead , as the Lions held Brevard in single digits until a pair of Shelby Wolfe free throws made the score 43-11 with 1:44 to play in the half. Mars Hill went into halftime with a 48-11 lead as Leroy took the rebound off of a missed Brown free throw and sank a jumper just before the buzzer. Brevard was 4-for-35 (11.4 percent) from the field in the first half while the Lions were 17-for-36.
Brevard opened the second half on a 10-4 run as a Whitney DeMoss layup brought the Tornados to within 29, 52-23, with 13:51 to play. Mars Hill responded with a 16-3 run to go up 68-26 with 9:41 to play in the contest. Glymph tied Gahagan's mark on a jumper with 6:07 remaining to give Mars Hill an 81-34 advantage. The Lions stretched their lead to 50 points following a pair of Stevens free throws at the 2:43 mark as Brevard would score five of the final six baskets.
Mars Hill wraps up the 2014-15 regular season on Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne with a 2 p.m. tipoff.
