MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-10-1, 1-5 SAC) was downed by a score of 3-0 to Carson-Newman (8-4, 6-1 SAC) Wednesday night.
In the 33rd minute, the Eagles broke the 0-0 deadlock as Elena Propst netted her second of the season. Following a loose rebound, Propst popped it inside the near post to give Carson-Newman the lead.
Late in the second half, a Mars Hill three-on-one led to their best opportunity of the night. Fanny Gustavsson's attempt to the lower left corner was saved by Jasmine Rizk as the senior goalkeeper got a toe on the ball to deflect it away.
With just over five minutes to play, Emily Futrell scored twice in less than a minute to put the Eagles up 3-0. The lead would hold as the Eagles improved to 6-1 in the conference.
Mars Hill takes to the road Saturday night when they take on Newberry. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
