Lions compete at Montreat College Open
The Mars Hill women's outdoor track & field team traveled to Black Mountain, North Carolina to compete in the Montreat College Open Friday, March 22nd – Saturday, March 23rd.
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's outdoor track & field team traveled to Black Mountain, North Carolina to compete in the Montreat College Open Friday, March 22nd – Saturday, March 23rd. Thirty-two college programs from all NCAA Divisions and NAIA participated in the open.
Day 1 Recap
Jumps
Alina Mueller, Maya Adams, and Janette Hanni took to the long jump runway Friday afternoon. Mueller placed 19th overall with a jump of 4.63m. Adams set a new collegiate best mark of 4.52m. Adams placed 22nd overall. Hanni competed in her first every collegiate track meet. Hanni established a personal best 4.14m in long jump, placing 26th overall.
Throws
Kayla Rice and Bailey Beeman represented the Lions in the Discus and Shot-Put ring. Rice, in her second collegiate meet, set a new personal best in shot put, throwing 6.61m. Rice placed 41st overall. Beeman competed in Discus, placing 41st overall with a throw of 21.79m.
Distance
Lindsey Jenkins, Hannah Frazer, Sarah McNeil, and Brenna Hicks took to the oval, competing in the 1500m run. Jenkins ran a strong race finishing six seconds faster than last weekend with a time of 5:08.31. Jenkins placed 28th overall. Frazer competed in her first collegiate 1500m run, establishing a personal best 5:38.3. Frazer placed 48th overall. McNeil ran to a new personal best 5:55.96, seven seconds faster than her previous best. McNeil placed 51st overall. Hicks established a personal best by 16 seconds, finishing with a time of 6:00.62. Hicks placed 52nd overall.
Day 2 Recap
Throws
Alina Mueller and Maya Adams set personal bests in women's Javelin. Mueller advanced to the finals with a personal best 31.01m. In finals, Mueller finished with a new personal best 31.58m. Mueller placed seventh overall. Adams established a personal best throw of 23.03m. Adams placed 23rd overall.
Hurdles
Simone Giggetts followed up last weeks collegiate best in the hurdles with a new best of 15.36s. Giggetts is 0.2s off of her all-time best. She placed seventh overall in the event.
Jumps
Mueller placed sixth in Women's High Jump with a mark of 1.42m.
Haley Eddinger placed 7th in Pole Vault with a vault of 2.65m.
Sprints
Honney Willis placed 37th in the 100m with a time of 14.35s.
Maria Orozco placed 40th in the 100m with a time of 14.51s.
Next up, the Lions travel to High Point University to compete in the VertKlasse Meeting April 5th-April 6th.
