Martins leads all players with 26 digs in match versus Queens
The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-8, 8-6 SAC) was downed in three sets against Queens (12-11, 8-8 SAC) on the road Friday evening.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-8, 8-6 SAC) was downed in three sets against Queens (12-11, 8-8 SAC) on the road Friday evening.
Tied at 10-all in the first set, the Royals took eight of the next nine points, led by Logan Witt's three kills. Mars Hill, trailing 18-11, would answer, winning nine of the next 10 points to go up 20-19 late in the set. Sally Anne Johnson had four kills during the stretch. The Royals would go on one more push late in the set, taking six of the final eight points to take the first set 25-22.
The Lions once again found themselves trailing, but making a charge midway through the second set. Down by six, Mars Hill won four straight points to pull within two. However, leading 18-16, the Royals would cut the Lions' run short and go on to win seven of the final 10 points to go up 2-0 in the contest.
The Royals would not trail for the duration of the third set and closed out Mars Hill by a score of 25-15 to earn the win and split the season series.
Casey Tarvin led all players with 13 kills and added 19 digs for the double-double. Witt had 11 kills and Chanel Turner chipped in 10 kills and 14 digs. Jaycee Jones had a team-high 21 digs.
Johnson led the Lions with nine kills and hit .320 on the night. She, along with Abby King, had three blocks. Ully Martins led all players with 26 digs.
Mars Hill hosts Catawba on Saturday, October 20th at 2 p.m. inside Stanford Arena.
