Johnson sets career-highs in match versus Catawba

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-9, 8-7 SAC) fell in three sets to Catawba (7-19, 3-12 SAC) inside Stanford Arena Saturday afternoon.
Going without a kill in the first set, Sally Anne Johnson recorded three in the second, surpassing her career-high for kills in a season. Her previous mark was 215, set last year. Johnson would end the game with eight kills and have a career-high 17 digs in the game, adding to her already career-high totals in that category.
Catawba dominated the first set over the Lions, hitting .386 as a team with only two errors. Micah Ensor had six kills on 11 attempts, hitting .545 in the set. Abby King had three kills in the frame for Mars Hill.
The Indians picked up where they left off in the second set, outhitting the Lions .286 to .074. Kylie Morgan and Jessica Walker each had four kills to lead Catawba, while King led all players in the set with five.
The Lions showed fight in the third set, when they trailed 20-14. Mars Hill would go on to win eight of the next 11 points to pull within one, but an errant set and final kill from Walker would secure the three set win for the Indians.
Catawba had six errors on the day to Mars Hill's 20 and would outhit the Lions .248 to .100. Morgan and Allie Grubb each had 10 kills for Catawba while Morgan Hester had a game-high 36 assists.
King had a triple-double on the day. She led all players with 11 kills, had 11 assists and 14 digs. Ully Martins led the Lions with 20 digs.
Mars Hill travels to Charlotte on Tuesday, October 23rd when they take on undefeated Wingate for the second time in 10 days. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
