Baseball Loses at Limestone
Mars Hill’s baseball team lost on the road at Limestone 10-5 Monday afternoon at Founders FCU Stadium.
GAFFNEY, S.C. – Mars Hill's baseball team lost on the road at Limestone 10-5 Monday afternoon at Founders FCU Stadium. The Lions fell to 16-27 on the year while the Saints improved to 21-23 on the season. The teams combined for 26 hits in the contest.
Nick Villalobos and Jacob Rand led MHU at the plate with two hits apiece. Villalobos added an RBI. Ryan Luckadoo hit a two-run homerun. Kevin Searcy took the loss (2-2) for the Lions on the mound.
Kyle Booth led the Saints going 4-5 with five RBI, a homerun and a double. Cooper Gunter was 2-5 with a homerun and a double. Jameson McGrane threw six innings scattering the same number of hits while striking out five batters to pick up the win (3-5) for Limestone.
Booth singled in the Saints' first at-bat to drive in KJ McAllister to give Limestone a 1-0 advantage they would not relinquish. Limestone exploded for four runs in the fourth inning on four hits and one Lion error. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI double from Michael Newcomb.
A single by Villalobos in the sixth inning scored Phillip Carroll to put MHU on the board. The Saints answered scoring four more runs in the seventh frame on four hits. Booth hit a three-run homerun in the at-bat followed by a solo shot from Gunter.
Booth singled in the eighth inning to score McAllister again to end the Saints scoring. The Lions made a late comeback in the ninth inning scoring three runs on two hits but that was as close as MHU would get. Wyatt Mills had an RBI single in the at-bat and Luckadoo hit a two-run homerun to left field before Caleb Shelley managed to get the last out of the game.
The Lions will host Tusculum College in a three-game SAC series this weekend. The teams will meet for a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. and then play a double-header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
