MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (4-4-7, 2-3-4 SAC) earned a crucial South Atlantic Conference victory, defeating Catawba (4-5-3, 1-4-3 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Friday evening inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
In the 11th minute, Josh Moore scored his second of the season to put the Lions up 1-0. Mathias Karhus Mjaavatn picked up his first assist of the night.
Despite being outshot 8-4 in the second half, the Lions doubled up Catawba in the 76th minute. Mjaavatn laid an excellent through ball to the foot of the oncoming Oskar Wisth, who made no mistake burying his second of the year.
Catawba broke the Lions' shutout bid as Alex Payton struck in the 83rd minute to cut the deficit in half.
The Lions were outshot 12-9 with both Moore and Carrick Bromage leading the team with two shots apiece.
Zacharias Killemose picked up his second win of the season, making another four saves on the night.
Prior to the start of the contest, seniors Ross Collier, Ben Harvey, Carrick Bromage, Diego Fernandez, Ajani Wade, Jeffrey Hamm, David Diaz, Justin Williams, Kyle Williams, Landon Matz, and Lukas Kunz were recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the program.
Mars Hill closes out the regular season on the road versus Coker on Saturday, November 1. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
