Waters to Compete in Outdoor Track Nationals
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mars Hill's junior hurdler Frankie Waters (Brevard, N.C.) will be competing this weekend at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The three-day meet begins Thursday morning and continues until Saturday evening.
It is being held in the Irwin Belk Track & Field Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. For Frankie, it is his second trip to the Outdoor National Championships. He made his first appearance last May in San Angelo, Texas, finishing in ninth place in the 110 High Hurdles and missing All-American honors by .03 seconds. This past March he earned All-American honors at the Indoor National Championships in the 60 Meter High Hurdles. To earn the chance at Nationals you must record one of the 16 fastest times that season in the nation. Frankie enters today's competition seeded ninth easily placing him in the top one-percent of hurdlers in the nation.
It has been especially challenging to prepare as the spring semester ended three weeks ago. He has had to balance being at home, a summer job and the start of summer classes with his training. In spite of that he turned in his personal best time of 14.33 seconds on May 16 at the N.C. A&T Invitational.
Frankie will run in the 110 hurdle preliminaries Friday evening at 7:35 p.m. The top eight finishers will move on to the finals Saturday night at 6:32 p.m.
